Can you believe that I had never seen this movie? Yeah. Now I understand many fashion references that people talk aboud, such as Carrie’s Manolo Blahnik shoes.
Sex and the City is a sequel of the American series, which aired from 1998 to 2004, and is about four friends in New York. But even those who have never seen the series can understand the plot, which is explained by Carrie at the beginning of the film. The four main characters are Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattral), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon).
The main character and narrator is Carrie. She is a writer and narrates the film as her new book, and the language is quite simple. Sex and the City revolves around the friends in their relationships. After Carrie finds her ideal man, whom she calls Mr. Big, she prepares her dream wedding, but things don’t happen exactly the way she wants. Meanwhile her friends live their personal dramas and family.
The film is very long, it seems it will never end and the script is stretching all the time. The story is kind of silly, but it’s good to distract your head, admire the looks, accessories and shoes, and dream of visiting New York. And the film lives up to the title “Sex”, there are very hot sequences! And now I can understand why the people like Sarah Jessica Parker so much, she is very charismatic, even more as Carrie.
Aside from the four friends, the film is alll about Fashion – there’s even a sequence where they go to New York Fashion Week. The characters are super stylish, each style defining the personality of each one of them. Costume designer Patricia Field was responsible for the characters’ looks. We can see she well understands fashion because she also signed the costumes of Confessions of a Shopaholic and The Devil Wears Prada – two fashion films that I love.
If you – like me – haven’t seen the film yet take a look at the trailer.
Now I want to see the second part of the story!
Last Wednesday was a holiday in Brazil, so I enjoyed it watching The Intern (2015), with Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. I was dying to see this movie because I had seen that the character of Anne Hathaway would wear cool outfits like she did in The Devil Wears Prada, but did not expect anything from the plot. And what a cute movie! It’s like a romantic comedy – but without much romance.
The script develops around Ben (De Niro), a retired widower who, in search of something to fill the emptiness in his life, has applied to a senior intern program at Jules’ (Anne Hathaway) company. The company is a clothing e-commerce that has grown incredibly in one year and a half. There, he is assigned to work with Jules, who does not give him much attention because she’s a very private person. He soon gets everyone’s respect until Jules notices him and his experience.
The plot is well assembled, the secondary characters are great – I wanted to see more of them actually – and the main character is such a lovely person! It is a light film, unpretentious, that you can watch anytime you want.
In addition, a The Intern talks about an important issue: the difficulty of the elderly to adapt to retirement. Many end up falling into depression when they don’t find what to do in their free time, or are not considered fit for work again. And Ben proves that it is not like this, that experience has a lot of value in the working environment.
Jules’ costumes are pure inspiration for stylish work outfits. Check them out:
So, what do you think? I loved the ideas.
And here’s the trailer for you to take a look:
Have a good weekend guys!
